Taxpayers Association to Hold Candidate Forums

Easley school board candidates to appear before taxpayers Oct. 2. State House candidates B.R. Skelton and Ed Harris will meet Oct. 18.

The Pickens County Taxpayers Association is giving voters a chance to hear directly from some of the candidates in this year’s elections.

The association will hold two candidate forums next month.

The first will bring together the three candidates seeking to be the Easley representative on the Board of Trustees for the School District of Pickens County: Judy Edwards, Valerie Ramsay and David Whittemore.

The forum will be held 7pm Tuesday, October 3 at the Farm Bureau on Highway 178.

“The School District spends a large amount of your tax dollars,” said Dennis Reinert, PCTA President. “ The school board spends 3/4 of our property taxes along with a large portion of our state taxes, and even some of our federal taxes.

“The fact is that the school board is responsible for most of the government debt in Pickens County,” he continued. “Come hear what the district 5 (Easley) school board candidates have to say about their plans for the schools as well as the taxpayers.”

State House candidates Ed Harris and B.R. Skelton will meet in a candidate forum on Thursday, Oct. 18.

That forum begins at 7pm and will be held at the Town Hall in Six Mile.

“Members of the state legislature have much more power over your life and pocket book than any other government body in South Carolina,” Reinert said. “In fact, the state legislature has more control over criminal law than the Federal government. We have seen indications that some in the state legislature want to start a South Carolina property tax supposedly to spend on education. The Pickens County Taxpayers Association encourages all citizens to get to know their candidates and what their plans are for the future of you and our state.”
