GALLERY: Walk for Babies Raises $108,000 in Pickens County

Cooler temperatures and a slight breeze made for a great day for a walk in Easley.

Make that a six-mile walk in Easley!

Dozens of people turned out for the Pickens County March for Babies at Saturday morning.

The group collectively raised $108,000 to help the March of Dimes continue to help babies.

"You are living proof of the power of volunteerism, and what we can do as a community when we all come together for a common cause," said Hunter Kome, chair of this year's event and also CEO of Oconee Medical Center.

"You are walking today to save the babies of tomorrow, and you never know if one of those babies will be in your family."

Pam Durham of Suntrust Bank was recognized as one of the top fundrasiers this year. Morgan brought in $2,900 this year.

T.J. Morgan, 3, the captain of T.J.'s Trotters, won the individual youth fundraiser award.

He is healthy now, but he hasn't always been.

Morgan was surrounded by family and friends on Saturday. They were at the walk not because of his fundraising efforts, but because of him.

His family celebrates the work of the March of Dimes each day as they watch Morgan do what a typical 3-year-old does — laugh, smile, hug a family member's dog and weave in and out of the legs of adults surrounding him.

Liberty High School teacher , who on April 19, was recognized with the 2012 Legacy Award.

"Our 2012 Legacy Award goes to a volunteer who has been dedicated to the mission of March of Dimes for many, many years. She has consistently served as a team captain for her school year after year. Our 2012 Legacy Award Winner is Pam Scott from Liberty High School! Pam worked tirelessly year after year in the fight for healthy babies. Pam will forever live in our hearts. Today, we honor her memory and all of the work she did for March of Dimes."

Students and teachers walked carrying a sign, "LHS in memory of Mrs. Scott."
