150+ Special Olympians Go for Gold
Annual Middle and High Schools Spring Special Olympics welcomes those with special needs.
On Friday, March 8, Berkeley County School District (BCSD) held its annual Middle and High Schools Spring Special Olympics Track & Field Day.
The event is hosted by Berkeley High School and is drawing more then 150 BCSD student athletes from six high and three middle schools. The games are funded by BCSD and a Special Olympics Project UNIFY grant, which is issued by the U.S. Department of Education in combination with Special Olympics North America. The UNIFY grant program is meant to activate communities where all young people are agents of change and foster advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities.Β Events are led by student volunteers and community volunteers.Β More than 130 student volunteers from BCSD schools attended.
