Are You a 'Swamp Celebrity'? Top Lowcountry Musicians Vie for Top Prize
Cypress Gardens debuts its first music competition.

Cypress Gardens is looking for a Swamp Celebrity.
The inaugural Swamp Celebrity Celebration is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Cypress Gardens. The event is a music competition, showcasing lcoal talent.
Top performers in two categories (17 and under, and 18 and over) will receive a $100 cash prize and be crowd Swamp Celebrities. The winners will carry that title for a year.Β

Jim Ravoira, a supporter of Cypress Gardens and member of the local ukulele band, βCharleston Hot Shotsβ, derived the βSwamp Celebrityβ competition in hopes of offering a platform for local musicians to shine and showcase their talents. The βFriends of Cypress Gardensβ are donating cash prizes for the competition winners.
βMany of the acts who have already signed up are excited about having an opportunity to perform and compete in front of a live audience, β said Heather Graham, Manager of Cypress Gardens.Β βUtilizing the beautiful blackwater swamp backdrop will only add to an energetic atmosphere.β

Performers must be amateurs to enter. Each act will perform one acoustic song up to five minutes long. Single acts, duos, trios and groups are welcome and must register by March 9. For more information and a full list of performance rules, visitΒ http://swampcelebrity.blogspot.com.
The general public is invited to participate as judges.
