Children's Hospital Fundraiser Slated for April 13

A Bike-A-Thon event benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will be held in Goose Creek on April 13, 2013.  This year marks the event’s 28th anniversary. The Volunteer Coordinator for this event is Chief Harvey Becker, who encourages everyone to participate.

By participating or attending the event, you will help raise funds for children of the world who are stricken with diseases like cancer, AIDS, and Sickle Cell Anemia.  These funds will help St. Jude in its ongoing fight against childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases.  Since the hospital opened in 1962 one hundred and forty-seven (147) children and families from South Carolina have received treatment from St. Jude.  Currently, forty-one (41) children from South Carolina are receiving treatment from St. Jude.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.  St. Jude was recently named the top children’s cancer hospital in the nation by U.S News and World Report.   Founded by the late entertainer, Danny Thomas, and based in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world.  Treatments not covered by insurance are never billed to the family, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.  St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fund-raising organization, through events such as the Bike-A-Thon.
