Rally Around the Goose Creek Gators

Donations needed for Feb. 25 event honoring the nation's No. 11 high school football team.

The rings won't say state champions, but they will be emblazoned with "integrity" for the Goose Creek Gators football players.

The estimated cost of rings and a Feb. 25 special banquet is $25,000. So far, $13,000 has been raised and businesses have been donating goods and services for the event, according to Ken Harrell of the Joye Law Firm.

The event will recognize the nation's No. 11 ranked team which was stopped from pursuing the state championship in playoffs due to an ineligible player.

"The members of the Goose Creek High School football team, they are champions of distinction and they will be honored as such," Sen. Larry Grooms said.

The ineligible player was allegedly on the roster as a way to help out the student.

"No good deed goes unpunished," Harrell said. "There has to be some way to have the final chapter be positive for these players."
