District's Rule Proposals Rejected by SCHSL

Berkeley County School District proposed rule changes after the Goose Creek Gators were ousted from playoffs due to an ineligible player.

The S.C. High School League executive committee voted Tuesday to not recommend rule changes proposed by Berkeley County School District, the Post and Courier reported.

Two amendments to the SCHSL were proposed by the district following the league's decision to eliminate the Goose Creek Gators from playoffs. The team was nationally ranked and undefeated. The team won state championships in 2011. Disqualification stemmed from an ineligible player on the roster, an issue that was reported by the team to the league.

The proposed amendments were: include more representation from the Lowcountry on the executive committee by requiring a geographic representation on the committee, and establish different levels of violations and distinguish between violations that are self-reported or provide a competitive advantage.
