Driver in High-Speed Wreck Dies from Injuries

Dennis Lee Smalls of Goose Creek died a week after he collided into a taxi at Redbank Road.

A Goose Creek man has died one week after a high-speed wreck at the intersection of Redbank Road and Henry E. Brown Jr. Boulevard, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.Β 

On Feb. 23, headed northbound, Dennis Lee Smalls was clocked at 105 mph in a 55 mph zone by a stationary Hanahan Police officer Henry E. Brown Jr. Boulevard near North Pointe Industrial Boulevard.Β A mile and a half later, Smalls allegedly approached the intersection of Redbank Road and failed to stop for the red light. As he passed through the intersection, his vehicle broadsided a taxi carrying seven people. One of the passengers was ejected from the taxi.Β 

The six passengers in the taxi and Smalls were transported to the hospital. Smalls died at around 2:40 p.m. Sunday. Salisbury ruled his death accidental.Β
