Escaped Inmate Sentenced to 5 Years
James Sanders sparked a manhunt in early 2012 when he walked out of the Berkeley County jail.

More than a year after detainee James Sanders walked out of Hill Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner, he has received a sentence of 5 years for the stunt that led to one employee being fired and a month-long manhunt.
Sanders, 40, pleaded guilty toΒ escape, not stopping for police and criminal domestic violence, according to Live 5 News. Sanders allegedly made his way out of the jail through an employee exit.Β
At the time of his escape, Sanders was being held in domestic violence case.Β After an investigation and review, "one employee was terminated, one was demoted, and two were suspended, all for failing to follow procedures," according to Berkeley County Sheriff's Office PIO Dan Moon.Β
