Goose Creek Bus Driver Wins Statewide Competition

Perry Fogle will go on to compete in nationwide Road E-O competition.

Each day, 240 bus drivers and assistants navigate Berkeley County to transport approximately 19,000 students to and from school.Β  At a recent state-wide competition, district drivers exemplified that safety remains their top priority.

On Saturday, April 13, five Berkeley County School District (BCSD) drivers competed in the Bus Driver Road-E-O sponsored by the South Carolina Association for Pupil Transportation (SCAPT). Β Β The annual Road-E-O is comprised of challenges designed to test drivers’ acuity, commitment to safety, and driving skills.Β  Events include a written test, as well as exercises in which drivers demonstrate their abilities related to parallel parking, determining clearance, and conducting pre-trip inspections.

This year, 22 drivers from eight districts competed.Β Β BCSD bus driver Perry Fogle, representing the Goose Creek bus lot, was the winner for the second year in a row.Β  He received a cash prize and will be recognized at this summer’s SCAPT conference in Myrtle Beach.Β  Fogle will represent SCAPT and Berkeley County at the national competition in Oklahoma this July.

The district congratulates Mr. Fogle on this tremendous repeated honor, and thanks all five of the driversΒ participating in thisΒ year's competition.Β
