Goose Creek Man Critically Injured in Accident

Victim is grandson of former Mount Pleasant Mayor Harry Hallman.

The grandson of former Mount Pleasant Mayor Harry Hallman was critically injured in a morning car accident, according to a police statement.

It happened around 4 a.m. on Hwy. 41 near Dunes West Boulevard, police said. Brittin Andrew Penniger, 24, of Goose Creek was reportedly traveling eastbound when he left the roadway and crashed into a stand of trees.

Police said Penniger was transported to the hospital and was listed in critical condition, a police statement reads.

Hallman was elected mayor twice but resigned in 2009 after announcing he had Alzheimer's disease. He also served eight years in the South Carolina House of Representatives. He died in January 2011.
