Man Charged for New Year's Day Attempted Murder

Berkeley County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged a Goose Creek man for allegedly shooting multiple times at a vehicle on Rutt Lane.Â
Joseph McKoy Jr., 26, has been charged with attempted murder. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. Jan. 1 on Rutt Lane.Â
According to the incident report, Vernon McCrae, 46, was returning home in his black pickup truck when he observed McKoy nearby. McCrae told deputies McKoy crouched down and fired three times into the truck, and said he slid down inside the truck to protect himself. Deputies found four spent shell casings, according to the report.

The bullets struck the tailgate of the truck and a tire. No injuries were reported.Â
McKoy pleaded guilty in 2009 to charges of assault of a high and aggravated nature in Berkeley County.

In 2007, he was charged with assault with intent to kill by the county, but the case was disposed as Nolle Prosequi, or in other words the prosecuter voluntarily discontinued criminal charges.Â
