St. Valentine certainly never suspected his name would invoke such passion thousands of years after his death.

Not much is known about the saint, but it is known he died on Feb. 14 around the 5th century. Now his namesake has sparked romance — at least just one day a year.

The holiday bearing his name has become a $16 billion industry in the United States.
