There is no such thing as bad publicity. The old cliche rings true for fast food chain Chick-fil-A, which despite being thrown into a heated gay rights battle in 2012.

Chick-fil-A sales rose 12 percent in 2012, making profits at $4.6 billion,Β theHuffintonΒ Post reported.

The premise that prompted a boycott and an Appreciation Day for the chain rested on the company's donations to alleged anti-gay nonprofits.Β Supporters cited long lines on Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day as proof that the pro-gay boycott of the restaurant did not have enough support.

Strong sales look likely to continue for some time. The company opened 96 new outposts in 2012, after opening 92 in 2011, so more and more of the country now has access to the food.
