Speak Out: What Do You Think of Elected Officials Donating 5% of Salary During Sequestration?
President Barack Obama returns 5 percent of his salary back to the Treasury.

As many federal workers and defense contractor employees face furloughs in the Charleston area and in the nation, at least oneΒ elected official in the nation will return a small portion of his salary to the U.S. Treasury to showΒ "solidarity with furloughed federal workers," according to the Huffington Post.
President Barack Obama will take 5 percent of his annual salary (a sum equalling $20,000)Β and give it back to the Treasury.Β Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel will also donate 5 percent of his salary to the Treasury. Secretary of State John Kerry will donate 5 percent of his salary to a charity for defense workers β a sum that equals less than $10,000 per year.Β
The federal furloughs and cuts to the defense contractors are part of the massive cuts caused by sequestration.
