PETA under fire from national media, as one local, unaffiliated shelter explores a no-kill option.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has come under fire from national media recently as a Huffington Post article claims the nonprofit has euthanized nearly 30,000 animals in 11 years.
Healthy and adoptable animals were allegedly euthanized by the organization β a nearly 96 percent kill rate, the Huffington Post reported.Β

Conversely, 75 percent of animals going into the Charleston Society for Animals are adopted out, according to the shelter,Β which hopes to become a no-kill shelter by 2015. Charleston Society for Animals is not affiliated with PETA.
