Goose Creek Police Chief Harvey Becker called on all Goose Creek area residents to join the St. Jude Childrenβs Research Hospital βMaking a Difference for St. Judeβ Bike-A-Thon slated for Saturday, April 13th, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the lake and hiker-biker trail behind Goose Creek City Hall.
Riders are needed for this Bike-A-Thon to raise funds for the world-famous research center in its battle against childhood cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.Β

βWeβre looking for riders of all ages who will contribute their time and talent to help children live.Β We really need lots of riders, since they are the ones who can make this Bike-A-Thon successful,β Becker said.
In the βMaking a Difference for St. Judeβ Bike-A-Thon, riders ask sponsors to make a donation based on each mile completed.Β Riders who raise $35 will receive a St. Jude T-shirt.Β Those who raise $75 will receive a St. Jude sling bag.Β Riders who raise $150 or more receive a St. Jude camp stool.Β Prizes are cumulative.Β

βThe real prize, though, is the pride everyone can take in giving children a chance to live a normal life,β Becker said. Β
Since the hospital opened in 1962, 147 children and families from South Carolina have received treatment from St. Jude.Β Currently, 40 children from South Carolina are receiving treatment from St. Jude.
