
The National Beta Club has named Mauldin High senior Kelsey Byrd a Beta Scholar which entitles her to a scholarship award of $1,000. Kelsey, a senior at Mauldin High School, competed against more than 700 candidates nationwide for this honor. Two hundred twenty-one scholarship recipients were chosen. Kelsey plans to attend Clemson University. She was recommended for this award by local Beta Club sponsor, Alyson Nelson and Mauldin High principal, Ann Miller. Earlier this year, Kelsey was named class valedictorian.
"This outstanding your person represents the true spirit of National Beta, having excelled not only academically, but in leadership and service to school and community as well," said Mr. Ken Cline, executive director of the National Beta Club.
Kelsey is the daughter of Mark and Brenda Byrd.
When asked how they felt about Kelsey's accomplishment Kelsey's parents said, "Kelsey has enjoyed her experience with the MHS Beta Club and we are incredibly proud of her hard work and determination."
