UPDATE: Simpsonville Cyclist Dies As Result of Crash

A bicyclist has died a day after an accident with a van.

According to WSPA, the Simpsonville cyclist involved in a crash on Wednesday has died as a result of his injuries.

A spokesperson for South Carolina Highway Patrol has indicated that the cyclist involved in Wednesday's accident was 62-year-old Walter Brackin. Brackin was traveling on Route 14 outside Sompsonville when he collided with a car and thrown from his bicycle. The driver of the car has not been charged.

Brackin was life-flighted to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he faces injuries that have him fighting for his life. Brackin has strong ties to the Mauldin High School community.

It has already been a difficult 2012 for Mauldin High, having to a sudden illness in March.

On the day the South Carolina Department of Public Safety aimed at motorists who don’t make way for cyclists and walkers, a bike-rider in Simpsonville was seriously hurt in a collision with an automobile on Wednesday evening.

WSPA has video of the scene at Highway 14 and Pollard Road.
