Mauldin resident Jane Kizer announced her candidacy for the District 7 State Senate seat today in a press conference held at Greenville County Square in downtown Greenville.
The seat was made vacant when its long-time holder Ralph Anderson announced earlier this spring that he would not seek re-election.
Kizer will run as Republican and is unopposed in the primary. She will face Karl Allen, Ennis Fant or Lillian Brock-Flemming in the general election in November.

The seat has traditionally been Democratic, but in her remarks Kizer reached out to all members of the district, which was changed due to redistricting. It includes a northern portion of Greenville and loops around the west end of downtown and ultimately includes the area west of Main Street/Route 276.
Kizer said she plans to represent all members of the district and emphasized a "zero-based" approach to budgeting and her belief that taxation is essentially a business agreement between taxpayers and the government. Kizer also said that education is the key to a thriving economy and school choice is a way that parents can help their children reach their potential.
