Both come up short of ultimate goal.

Mauldin and Clemson grad Alyssa Kulik came within an eyelash of qualifying for the finals of 3,000 meter women's steeplechase.

Kulik had a time of 9:55.14, which was less than two seconds behind the last runner to qualify.

In case you missed it, the University of South Carolina baseball team lost 4-1 to Arizona, which gave the Wildcats its second win in the best two-of-three in the College World Series. The win gives Arizona its first championship since 1986 and derailed the Gamecocks' attempt to become the first team to win three straight College World Series.

South Carolina once again struggled against Arizona pitching, picking up just three hits. Still, USC was tied at one and had a chance to pull ahead in eighth inning with a runner in scoring position and one out. But that rally was thwarted and Arizona plated three runs in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, USC again threatened, loading the bases with one out, but once again were turned away.
