Laurens Electric To Fix Street Lights
Brought to fore at Tuesday's committee meeting.

The highlight of an otherwise uneventful monthly committee meeting on Tuesday was a complaint by councilman Bob Cook about some troublesome streetlights that are serviced by the Laurens Electric Cooperative.
Cook was not happy with the service the city had been receiving on some 60-plus streetlights that were functioning intermittently or not at all. He also suggested the city withhold payment to the Cooperative until the problem is solved.
According to Jim Donahoo, a spokesperson for Laurens Electric Cooperative, said, "We have talked to the Mayor and to Councilman Cook and are in the process of repairing them. We take our responsiveness very seriously. The City of Mauldin is important to us."

"They've always been great partners with the city," Raines said of Laurens Electric. Raines said he does not expect the city's long-running relationship with Laurens Electric to be affected. He added that there was some uncertainty about which units were the responsibility of Duke, which also operates in the city, and Laurens.
As a means of comparison, in May, Mauldin was billed for approximately $1,800 in charges while Duke's was exponentially higher than that.
