Man Arrested in Augusta Road Murder

Charged for murder of Ellen Renea Willingham.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office have arrested 33-year old James Cornelius Gary for the murder of Ellen Renea Willingham. On May 26, the Saturday before Memorial Day, Willingham was found behind the old Waffle House at 4306 Augusta Road in Greenville at approximately 11:30 a.m. She was transported to a nearby hospital with severe injuries and later died from those injuries which were determined to be the result of blunt force trauma to the head. An investigation and the assistance of the public, later led to her death being classified as a homicide.

Gary has been in the Greenville County Detention Center since May 29 of this year on a Strong Arm Robbery charge from Greenville City in addition to a Probation Violation. The murder warrant was served against Gary this morning at the detention center. A bond hearing for the murder charge will be scheduled for later today.

Although Gary has been charged, the GCSO says the investigation is ongoing.  As a result, the Sheriff’s Office is still seeking the public’s assistance.  Anyone with information regarding the murder of Ms. Willingham is asked to contact the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office at (864) 271-5210 or Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
