Mauldin JV Lacrosse Team Beats Woodmont in OT Thriller
After 5 overtimes, Mavericks top Wildcats 5-4.
It took five overtimes, but the Mauldin High boys junior varsity lacrosse team claimed a thriller last week against the Woodmont High Wildcats by a 5-4 score.
"It was a hard fought game and neither team gave up," said assistant coach Edward Knope, whose son Alec plays in goal.
"It is very uncommon in lacrosse to have more than one overtime much less five," he said. "Overtime is sudden death, and each period is 4 minutes long, so after playing a normal 48 minutes, these kids played nonstop for 20 more minutes without giving up."
Added Knope: "Lacrosse does not get a lot of coverage around here, but is growing fast, and is one of the most mentally and physical demanding sports. Not to mention exciting!
