Mauldin Open Air Market Owner Still Fighting to Keep Property
For more than two years, Joel Ann Chandler has been protesting the efforts by SCDOT to exert a right of way claim on the roads that border the Mauldin Open Air Market, which she owns.

For more than two years, Chandler has been protesting the efforts by SCDOT to exert a right of way claim on the roads that border the Mauldin Open Air Market, which she owns.
"We're not going anywhere," Chandler said. "We are going to be here. No matter what it takes to make it work, we are going to be here."

Last March, Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study deferred a decision on the road-widening project and SCDOT's plans were put on hold.
Chandler said at this point a new plan hasn't been presented and she hasn't signed any paperwork that would allow construction to begin.

Chandler said the open air market is headed in to its busy season.
"We are getting ready to get busy selling bait, fresh produce including vegetables and fruits, and honey," Chandler said. "We are doing all right."
