UPDATED: Mauldin Public Works Director Charged With Kidnapping

Fincher is accused of detaining a woman against her will at the Public Works Department.

Update, Sunday, Aug. 26: An arrest warrant states that William Fincher allegedly detained a woman against her will at the Public Works Department, which prompted the kidnapping charge.

Fincher, “did commit the offense of kidnapping by unlawfully confining the victim to 126 McDougall Court, Maudlin, S.C. and refusing to allow the victim to leave the premises. The premises is the Public Works Department for the City of Mauldin, S.C.,” according to the warrant.

The warrant also stated the alleged victim was forced to climb an eight-foot chain link fence that surrounds the PW department in order to escape, and injured her hand in the process.

Fincher remains on paid administrative leave during the investigation in the matter, and town officials have declined to comment so far.

CORRECTION:

According to Mauldin Police Chief Bryan Turner, Fincher was arrested on Thursday by the Mauldin Police Department, not the Greenville County Sheriff's Office as originally reported.

Turner could not comment any further on Fincher's arrest as an investigation is ongoing.

William Greg Fincher, the Director of Public Works for the City of Mauldin was arrested by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office on Thursday and charged with kidnapping.

According to WSPA, Fincher, 51, has been placed on administrative leave with pay. He is incarcerated at the Greenville County Detention Center in lieu of $30,000 bond.

It is not Fincher's first brush with the law. According to court records, he was charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident in May 2011 in Horry County. Those charges were dropped in December 2011. In that case, Fincher was represented by Mauldin's city attorney John Duggan.
