Mauldin's Response to Election Day is a Yawn
Turnout unlikely to reach 10 percent.

What if an election was held and no voters showed up? Turnout so far in Mauldin precincts for Primary Day hasn't been that bad, but veteran poll workers say it's slower than (which had a turnout in the teens) and exponentially slower than .
Opinions varied on what accounts for the lackluster numbers. One volunteer said voters were turned off by the . Another said that voters were fatigued from the third election in the last eight months. A third suggested that voters were uninspired by the race with so few races to vote on.
In District 8, Republicans could only vote for State Senator. In District 7 there were no state level races for Republicans. Democrats in much of the Golden Strip could only vote for Congressional representation.

Another volunteer said it's too hard for people to vote who are work. Next to her, a co-worker disagreed.
But one thing all the volunteers shared was a sense of disappointment that participation in the democratic process garnered so little interest. "We're supposed to be the leader of the free world and we can't even get people to vote," one volunteer said. "What's the point of having a democracy then?"
