New Local Brewery Taking Shape

Brewery 85 set to open this fall.

Beer aficionados will soon have another microbrew option when the new Brewery 85 opens this fall near the Golden Strip.

Construction of the 10,000-square-foot facility is well underway on 6.2 acres near Interstate 85, close to Laurens Road and the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research campus just outside Mauldin.

Once complete, customers will be treated to an eight-tap tasting room with a view of the fermentation cellar and brewhouse, according to a GSA Business report. Plans call for expansion of the facility down the line. The owners have also poured a 5,000-square-foot pad that will eventually host an outdoor pace for tastings, parties, and live music.

The brewery is being headed by an engineer turned brewmaster, along with his wife and another businessman.

The brewery president, Will McCameron, received a World Brewing Academy international diploma in brewing technology from the Doemans Academy in Bavaria, Germany. That followed working as a fire safety engineer and then at Thomas Creek Brewery in Greenville. McCameron, a Clemson University graduate, has been a home brewer for years.

Brewery Vice President Jeremy Caldwell is an experienced home brewer with a business degree from Lander University. McCameron’s wife, Meredith, is the front office manager. She also is a Clemson graduate.

Operators of Greenville Brew Tours said in a statement that Brewery 85 will be among the stops on its new brewery tour, which starts in August. The company said it launched the tour in response to the growing beer scene in the Greenville area. Quest Brewing Co. near the Greenville Downtown Airport held a grand opening July 13, the same day Thomas Creek on Piedmont Highway celebrated 15 years. The tour will also include Barley’s in downtown Greenville.
