New QuickTrip on Butler Road Eyes Summer Opening

If weather cooperates, officials expect to open on West Butler Road in mid-July.

With construction well underway, the new QuikTrip gas station and convenience store going up on West Butler Road should be open for business by July 18, a company spokesperson told Patch.

The QuikTrip Corp. of Oklahoma is undergoing a major expansion in the Carolinas and the Maudin store is part of that growth, officials said.

The chain has approximately 17 stores under construction in North and South Carolina. Its rapid growth in the area has allowed it to hire approximately 400 people so far.

QuikTrip, which currently owns and operates nearly 650 stores in 11 states, is known not only for gasoline and standard convenience store fare, but also an array of fresh-made foods such as sandwiches and wraps.

A handful of people interviewed by Patch said what that strip of Butler Road needs is more restaurants and nightlife, rather than a gas station/convenience store, no matter how upscale it might be.

"We need more places like Chicora Alley in town," said Mauldin resident Stan Hughey. "I'm tired of battling Woodruff Road traffic or having to drive into Greenville if I want to go out for a nice dinner or drinks."

But Joanne Falls of Conestee, who works in Easley, said she believes Mauldin residents will love the new store.

"I love shopping the new one in Easley because it's so clean and modern and it has a great selection of everything," she said. "I also grab lunch there quite a bit. The food they make there is surprisingly delicious."
