Police: Man Attempted to Steal Meat from BI-LO

Fredrick Baker has been charged with strong armed robbery and assault and battery third degree after he attempted to conceal packages of ribeye steaks under his clothes.

Greenville police have arrested a man who attempted to steal meat from an Upstate grocery store and also assaulted a store employee.

Fredrick Baker has been charged with strong armed robbery and assault and battery third degree after he attempted to conceal packages of rib-eye steaks under his clothes Tuesday while at BI-LO at 1315 S. Pleasantburg Drive, near the intersection of Mauldin Road.

Police said a store employee witnessed Baker concealing the items and tried to stop Baker from leaving the store. Baker dropped the steaks and attempted to leave the store when the employee blocked the door, according to an incident report.

Police said Baker struck the employee several times in the face before leaving the scene.

Baker was arrested a short time later.
