The term Staycation gained wide use during the summer of the 2008 financial crisis, when a floundering economy had many families scaling back their vacation plans for something a little more local and a lot less costly.
The portmanteau “Staycation” is really just a trendier term for a Day Trip. Those getaways that require a minimum of planning and travel while still ensuring a grand time never go out of style.
Here in the Upstate we’re very fortunate to have plenty of Staycation (or Day Trip) options, all of which can be reached within a couple of hours or less.
