UPDATE: J.L. Mann Lockdown Related to Firearms at Nearby Address

There was limited access to the school while police and school administrators investigated rumors of a weapon on campus.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said in a statement law enforcement officers were led to a residence at 73 Jaquline Lane. Deputies did find three handguns at the address, one of which was believed to be the gun seen earlier in the day. As of this time, no criminal charges have been filed.

After investigation by the Greenville City Police, Greenville County Sheriff’s Department, Mauldin City Police, and school and district officials, it has been determined that the rumor of a gun on the campus of J. L. Mann High School was unfounded, according to Greenville County Schools.

The district said that based on information obtained earlier in the day, school officials placed the school on lockdown as a precautionary measure to ensure student safety during investigation of the report.

According to the release, The faculty, staff, students and the J.L. Mann High community exhibited a high-level of cooperation and understanding during this process.

Fox Carolina is reporting that parents of J.L. Mann received a phone blast from Greenville County Schools at 1 p.m. that officials hoped to have the situation resolved by 3:45 p.m. More from Fox Carolina HERE.

Greenville County Schools said in an email that a person not associated with the school had reported to the administration at J.L. Mann High School that they witnessed what they believed to be a handgun passed out of a car to an individual, possibly a student.

The district said as a precautionary measure, the school was immediately placed on lockdown in order for law enforcement and school and district officials to thoroughly investigate.

The school is off lockdown at this time.

Greenville County Schools said that J.L. Mann High School is on lockdown while rumors of a weapon on campus are investigated.

The school district said that Greenville City police, the school's resource officer and school personnel are investigating and that as a precaution, access to the school is being restricted.
