State Jobless Rate Unchanged in May

While state's unemployment rate remained at 8 percent in May, Greenville County's jobless rate jumped a half-percentage point.

After steadily coming down for months, the state's jobless rate remained unchanged at 8 percent in May, according to the S.C. Dept. of Employment and Workforce.

Menawhile, Greenville County saw its unemployment rate rise a half-percentage point to 6.2 percent from 5.7 percent in April.

Last year at this time, the county's unemployment stood at 7.3 percent.

Despite the rise, Greenville County still boasts the second-lowest jobless rate among the state's 46 counties.

Nationally, the unemployment rate increased slightly to 7.6 percent from 7.5 percent.
