Former Mauldin and USC star Scott Wingo made his 2012 debut last night for Rancho Cucamonga of the California League. And he made it a good one.
Wingo went 1-1, walked twice, had a sacrifice and stole three bases in the Quakes’ 5-1 win over Visalia.
Wingo, the 2011 College World Series Most Outstanding Player, played most of last summer with Ogden in the Pioneer League. The next step for Wingo in the Los Angeles Dodgers' system seemed to be with the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League, but instead, he jumped over that classification and made the Rancho Cucamonga roster. According to the Quakes Web site, Wingo has been issued jersey No. 41.

Rancho Cucamonga is considered to be a “High” A team as a member of the California League. Wingo would have two more stops to make en route to the Major Leagues and a spot with the Dodgers. Those would be at AA Chattanooga and AAA Albuquerque.
Rancho Cucamonga is approximately 45 minutes east of Los Angeles. Times may vary, of course, as Los Angeles area traffic is notoriously unpredictable.
