Charleston Airport Among Most Expensive

Rankings put Charleston near bottom of list for affordability.

The Charleston International Airport is enjoying some of its best business in years as it charts a course for expansion, but a website says the airport is one of the most expensive places from which to fly in the U.S.

The rankings by CheapFlights.com, which sampled only June 2012, put Charleston International at 99 out of the 101 airports it ranked. Tickets in Charleston averaged $717, according to the website rankings. June is a peak travel time for Charleston, so fares are much less competitive.

Bob Hope Airport in Berkeley, Calif., ranked as the cheapest with an average price of $221. Only flights out of Honolulu and Achorage, Alaska, were more expensive, according to the survey. Read the full list on Cheapflights.com.
