Nine people died South Carolina roads over the weekend. Though the number seems abnormally high for a non-holiday weekend, the death toll across the state is trending below last year's body count. So far, 500 people have died on Palmetto State roads in 2012, according to Department of Public Safety records. This time in 2011, 525 had died on South Carolina roads. Here's breakdown of how Lowcountry counties rank: County Deaths in 2012 Charleston 32 Berkeley 16 Dorchester 11 Only Greenville County outranks Charleston for roadway fatalities in 2012 with 35 deaths so far this year.
