Fort Moultrie Motel up for Sale

Notorious motel was scene of homicide in September.

A prime chunk of Mount Pleasant real estate with a checkered past is up for sale following a brutal homicide last month.

Fort Moultrie Motel has long been maligned as an eyesore in highly visible part of town, but now The Beach Company has the 1.85-acre property listed for sale with a $1.7 million asking price.

The move comes just two weeks after a 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder for allegedly killing his father in a room at the Stuart Engles Blvd. motel.

The property is zoned for planned development, which allows buildings up to 75 feet tall. The listing suggests the property would be good for another hotel or possibly an assisted living facility, but a variety of uses could be right for the property.

With visibility from Interstate 526, the property is accessible from Stuart Engles Blvd.
