Gas Leak Diverts U.S. 17 Traffic

UPDATE (2 p.m.): Police say the gas leak has been secured and the road is open again.

Mount Pleasant police have closed a portion of Highway 17 near Carolina Park due to a gas leak.

Southbound traffic has been diverted through Darrell Creek, and motorists should avoid the area, according to police spokesman Lt. Stan Gragg.

"SCE&G is on scene but at this time an estimated time of disruption is unknown," Gragg said. "Parents are allowed to pick up their children from the Children’s Center utilizing the back entrance."
