Junior Regatta Set for Aug. 11

The 8th annual Mount Pleasant Junior Regatta is set for Saturday, Aug. 11 at Hobcaw Yacht Club. The regatta is open to beginning sailors up to the most experienced.

One of the goals of the regatta is to encourage participation from youth who have little racing experience, but possess basic boat handling skills.

Boat classes will be optimist – green, white, blue and red, sunfish, 420, and laser. A limited number of optimists and 420 boats will be available for use on a first come first serve basis and must be reserved in advance by calling Tina Carter at 849-2061. Lunch for participants will be provided, and water for the day will be available.

To pre-register, you may fill out a registration form at any Mount Pleasant Recreation Department office. Registration will be on site Saturday, August 11 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Entry fee before August 11 is $20 per boat and $25 the day of the event.

The schedule of events is as follows – registration 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., skippers’ meeting 11 a.m., lunch 11 a.m. to 12 noon., first warning signal 12:30 p.m., with races to follow.
