Man Arrested for Pulling Gun at Boat Ramp

Suspect faces aggravated assault charge for pointing gun.

A Mount Pleasant man has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly pulling a gun on four individuals at a neighborhood boat landing.

Kirk P. Britzius faces two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of third-degree assault for allegedly pulling a 9 mm gun after being punched in the face, according to a police report.

It happened Aug. 24 at Cooper Estates Boat Landing off Cottingham Drive, police write. Britzius told officers he had been in an argument with several men over a woman when another man punched him in the face.

After suffering the blow, the 53-year-old suspect went to his truck and retrieved the pistol, which was loaded with 14 rounds of hollow-point bullets, and pointed it at two men and the woman over which he was arguing.

The victims told officers they all fled for cover and called 911, the report states.

Britzius, while being questioned at the police department, said he didn't know what the big deal was since he didn't actually shoot anyone, though he reportedly told officers "but I should have shot them."

Britzius was booked into the Charleston County jail and released on bond, according to court records.
