Man Slapped by Sheriff Arrested Again

Timothy McManus, suspect chased then slapped by Al Cannon in January, arrested this morning traffic charges.

The man chased and then slapped by Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon in January has been arrested again, according to a sheriff's news release.

Deputies caught up with Timothy McManus just after 6 a.m. today when he was allegedly asleep in a stopped but still running truck obstructing part of Six Mile Road.

"McManus was asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle which was still in drive when deputies approached," wrote sheriff's spokesman Maj. Jim Brady. "McManus was arrested without incident and transported to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center."

McManus faces a slew of charges related to various traffic charges for driving on a suspended licence, driving without a proper tag and operating an uninsured vehicle, according to the sheriff's department.

McManus was arrested on January 30 and charged with failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving and driving under suspension 3rd offense after fleeing from a traffic stop that Sheriff Cannon initiated after observing McManus driving in a dangerous manner on Hwy. 17.

That high-speed chase ended on Steed Creek Road. Cannon faces a state investigation for reportedly slapping the handcuffed suspect once the traffic stop was complete. He has apologized publicly for what he said was poor judgement.

McManus, 30, faces a 7 p.m. bond court hearing on the latest charges.
