Patriots Point Expects to Improve Bottom Line

Museum expects improved revenue in 2013.

Patriots Point is forecasting 2 percent growth in revenues and 1.7 percent decrease in costs in 2013, according to the Charleston Business Journal.

The Mount Pleasant tourist attraction plans to spend $800,000 on various capital projects that could boost revenue, and it has budgeted a $252,000 interest payment for repairs to the USS Laffey.

The facility owes the State of South Carolina $9 million for the vessel's repair costs. It also potentially faces untold millions of dollars in repair costs for the ailing USS Yorktown, its principal attraction.

Patriots Point plans a much larger Fourth of July fireworks show this year, according to the Post and Courier. The facility plans to launch fireworks from a barge in the Cooper River. With 8-inch shells, the display is supposed to be the largest in the state.

Patriots Point will sell $10 tickets to watch the show from the deck of the USS Yorktown. That's a new source of revenue as well, the Business Journal reports.
