Man Arrested for Animal Abuse

A homeless man has been charged with ill treatment of a dog after officers spotted his small and malnourished animal was dragging a cinder block around a Sixth Ave. property.

George Drayton, 54, said he had only owned the dog for three weeks and that he didn't care if officers took the animal. He denied that long drag marks in the dirt were caused by the animal, which was clearly tethered to the cement block, according to the report.

Drayton was apparently living in a shed behind an abandoned home on the property. Officers arrested Drayton on the animal charge.

Machete-toting Camper Causes Concern

A resident was concerned when they spotted a man walking near Park West carrying a machete in one hand and had a knife strapped to one of his legs.

Officers stopped the man who said he had been camping in nearby woods for two weeks, a report states. Officers searched the woods but could not find any campsite.

The officers wrote that the 34-year-old Georgia man did not look as though he had been camping. The suspect said he was headed to a friend's house nearby. Officers gave him a ride, but he was not cited for any criminal conduct.

Landscaper Finds Rusted Firearm

A man doing landscape near Anchorage Apartments reported finding a rusted handgun beneath a large pile of debris.

The gun was wrapped in numerous grocery sacks and was badly corroded, a report states. Officers took the weapon, though they wrote that it may not be able to be analyzed because of its deterioration.

The landscaper said the area is a popular walking path and that illegal conduct, such as drug use, has been ongoing there.

Man Finds His House Listed on Craigslist

A man who recently relocated from Mount Pleasant to North Carolina was shocked recently to find his own home listed for rent on Craigslist.

He was alerted to the fake ad when neighbors told him people were showing up to the vacant home and looking through the windows.

The homeowner was trying to rent the home himself, but the ad was apparently undercutting his monthly rental price and causing confusion among potential tenants.
