Town Approves Homes for SeaCoast Property
Developer plans 119 homes on 45 acres off I-526.

Town leaders have approved plans that will allow DR Horton Homes to build 119 homes on a 45 acres tract of land currently owned by SeaCoast Church.
The approval ends a contentious debate over the property, which was originally designated as one of Mount Pleasant's few large tracts of land meant for economic development.
The property sat undeveloped for years as a commercial interest. Town leaders had envisioned the land would be good for a light industrial use, such as an office space, but when when previous efforts to use the land in such a way failed, the owners sought to rezone the property for residential development.
Town council last week approved the project in a 7-9 vote. Councilmembers Linda Page and Chris O'Neal opposed the plan.Â
The proposal was unpopular with residents of nearby residential developments, who had opposed previous efforts to develop the property as anything other than homes.Â
