Debby Reaches Land

Debby has been downgraded to a tropical depression as it makes its final soaking assault on Florida.

The storm made landfall Tuesday afternoon, and forecasters believe it will exit the state by Wednesday evening and then head into the Atlantic.

All totaled, the storm has dumped nearly three feet of rain across Florida, causing widespread flooding, and the rain will continue through Wednesday,

According to Anthony Reynes, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office, the storm could still bring bad weather...  into the morning on Wednesday.

“Tonight we’re still going to see rain bands in association with this,” “Gusty winds and downpours; it’s not going to be continuous rain, just passing rain bands.”

If Debby survives its pass across Florida, it may gain organization and form into a tropical storm or hurricane, but forecast paths show the storm staying well off the east coast.

The main weather threat this weekend, forecasters say, is heat.
