"Folly Beach is a natural barrier island and as such, the beach and waves are constantly changing," said Ken Merkel, Tides general manager. "We’re very
excited about having the surf cam at the Tides in order to show people how great the beach is at anytime."

There are also web cams on Isle of Palms and on Kiawah Island, but Tides is offering a much better vantage point and higher resolution.

The Tides surf cam is capable of 720p HD images with 15 frames per second, which brings the beach to life. The camera is mounted on the Tides at Folly Beach  and pans and zooms twenty-four hours a day.

By going through a series of presets starting at the pier and moving its way west, the camera is able to capture the full mood of the beach, according to a hotel news release.
