Christian Mission Taps Into the Virtues of Clean Water

Begun in a Simpsonville church, Greer-based Water of Life is bringing fresh water and the Gospel to parts of the underdeveloped world.

Many parts of the world do not have the simple luxury of clean drinking water. But one local organization is striving to change that.

Roland Bergeron is on a mission to bring potable water to parts of the world that do not have it. His organization, the Greer-based Water of Life, which was begun at Brookwood Church in Simpsonville, is seeking to bring clean water, and with it Christianity, to parts of the globe that have little of either, according to this feature story in The Greenville News.

Water of Life is currently drilling around 10 wells each month in places such as India and portions of West Africa, the article said. Otherwise, many peoples in those regions are forced to drink water that is filthy and riddled with pollution and disease.

β€œIt’s a crapshoot whether it’s going to make you sick,” Bergeron told the paper. β€œAnd if you do get sick, it’s a crapshoot whether it’s going to kill you or not.”

Simpsonville resident Pete Hansen told the paper he has been to West Africa a half dozen times, and once to India. The impact that a well can have on a village, he told the paper, is significant.

β€œThe health of entire villages vastly improves because of clean water,” he told the paper.

Fellow Simpsonville resident, Rick Hilton, is more adamant.

β€œIt’s literally saving lives each and every day,” he said.
