Copper Thieves Hit Local Cell Towers

Metal valued at more than $6,000 stolen over the past week.

Over the past week, thieves have made off with around $6,200 worth of copper from cell towers throughout southern Greenville County, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

The theft of ground bars and copper ground cables occurred sometime between 8 a.m. on March 20 through 2:30 p.m. on March 26 at towers located in Simpsonville, Piedmont, and Greenville, the GCSO said.

The reported value of metal stolen from each tower ranged from $400 to $4,500.

In all five cases the copper had been removed from the ground around the cell tower’s fenced area.

  • 160 Neely Ferry Road, SimpsonvilleΒ 
  • 1011 Highway 418, Simpsonville
  • 160 Collins Road, Piedmont
  • 36 Union Church Road, Greenville
  • Bracken Road, Piedmont

Anyone with information regarding these thefts are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME. Area residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious activity around cell tower sites to the Sheriff’s Office.
