Man Arrested on Criminal Domestic Violence Charge

Man allegedly got into physical altercation with girlfriend in a moving car; both receive injuries from box cutter.

A man faces a criminal domestic violence charge after he got into a fight with his girlfriend while the couple were driving with their toddler daughter in the car, a Simpsonville Police report said.

The couple, of Greenwood, were driving with their daughter through Simpsonville when they reportedly got into a fight over money, the report said. The argument became physical, with the man ultimately punching the woman while she was driving, the report said.

The woman attempted to get her boyfriend, 26-year-old Julius James Self, to exit the car to no avail, and at one point he grabbed the steering wheel nearly causing an accident, the report said.

When the woman was finally able to park, the man allegedly slammed her head against the car's door jamb. The woman then grabbed a box cutter from the driver side door pocket. The two grappled over the box cutter, with both receiving cuts, the report said.

The man then took the woman's car keys and walked to a nearby Taco Bell where he called police. He denied he hit the woman or that he started the altercation, although the woman had visible injuries from the incident, including a busted lip, the report said.

Police arrested Self on a charge of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. He was booked into the county dentention center and later released on $10,000 bond.
