Simpsonville Woman Arrested After Attacking Husband

Linda Withers charged with criminal domestic violence against her 68-year-old husband.

A Simpsonville woman faces a criminal domestic violence charge after she allegedly attacked and injured her husband and wrought havoc to their home in a dispute that began over her husband's objections to her making too much noise while he slept, a Simpsonville Police Department incident report alleged.

Linda Ann Withers, 66, of 707 N. Almond Drive in Simpsonville was arrested Wednesday night following the attack, which left her 68-year-old husband with minor injuries and a path of destruction throughout their house, the report said. The arresting officer stated in the report that he found the house "in complete disarray with broken items everywhere."

The victim told police the incident started after he had gone to bed, only to be awakened by his wife, who was reportedly "slamming doors, the toilet, in the kitchen making noise and had the television turned up loud."Β

When the victim threatened to move the TV to the garage unless she turned it down, Withers reportedly said she'd leave her husband if he did so. When he advised her not threaten him, the victim alleged his wife went "ballistic," destroying items in the home on all levels, as well as "hitting, scratching, punching and pushing him," the report said.Β

Officers noted that the victim appeared to have blood on his shirt as well as on his chin, the left side of his face, and also had blood coming from the back of his head, the reported stated.

Withers claimed her husband attacked her instead, that he had forced her off her medication, routinely called her names and had told her to lose weight. She told an officer that her husband hit her and that she feared he would push her down the stairs. When asked about the destruction to the house, she reportedly said, "I just went berserk and I'm sorry."

The arresting officer failed to find merit in her claims. "During this process, she never looked me in the eye, paused numerous times, and constantly looked left and up as if try[ing] to concoct a fabrication," the officer stated in the report.

Withers was subsequently arrested and booked into the Greenville County Detention Center where she was being held on a $3,500 bond.
